New Country Music Stars
There are always new names and faces on the scene in country music in America. In 2021 for example, we are seeing the emergence of Walker Hayes and Willie Jones. Ashland Craft is making a lot of noise with her new track "Trainwreck" and is also getting out on tour. Nora Collins is another emerging performer gaining a following. Take a look at Cory Marks as well as he continues to blossom.
As we approach the Independence Day weekend, the Billboard Country Songs chart has "Forever After All" by Luke Combs on top for the ninth week in a row. The song's video, dedicated to his wife, features actual footage from their wedding. Second on the list is "Famous Friends," the second collaboration between Chris Young and Kane Brown, celebrating their long and close friendship.
In third place is "Lil Bit," the second genre-crossing collaboration between country artist Florida Georgia Line and Hip-Hop Artist Nelly. In fourth place is Dierks Bentley's "Gone," a song that hints at his blue-grass origins. Jason Aldean's ballad "Blame It on You" comes in at the number five spot.
Among the emerging artists predicted to make their mark this year includes Priscilla Block. Her debut song, "Thick Thighs," became a women's anthem in 2020. Her follow-up song, "Just About Over You," topped the iTunes and Spotify streaming charts. Last year, Sean Stemaly hit the spotlight with his hit singles "Come Back To Bed" and "As Far As I know." They earned him critical acclaim for blending different strands of country music with soul and R&B. Tiera is young, with an authentic country approach to music. She has earned high praise from none other than Shania Twain, who judged Tiera at a talent contest a few years ago.
Given that we are in the month of July, expect songs with a patriotic tone to be in demand in the coming weeks. And sure enough, "Am I The Only One" by Aaron Lewis and "Happy Birthday America" by Toby Keith are flying high on the streaming platforms. The albums set to release this month include "The Half Record" by Hannah Desher, "Sugarcane" by Charlie Worsham, "The Last Resort" by Midland and "Hope" by Jim Lauderdale.
Fans of country and rock music were very disappointed last year. Rock the South, one of America’s biggest country music festivals, was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But circumstances are gradually improving, vaccination drive is in full swing and Covid-19 cases are reducing. Riding on the same tide of high spirits, Rock the South made a return in August 2021.
Rock the South is not your average music festival. Yes, it is as much fun and wild, but it also has heart. Every year the festival donates a considerable amount of its earnings to charitable and community endeavors. After all, Rock the South started in 2012 as a means to lift the people of Alabama who survived the devastation of tornadoes in the previous year.
The festival already took place for the year 2021, with an impressive line-up of musical talents. Over 40,000 music fans rocked and partied at the festival venue. The popularity of Rock the South has steadily increased over the years. Back in 2012, the festival had entertained a crowd of 11,000, less than half of the attendees this year.
To make things interesting, it rained a little during the festival. But the weather could not deter the fans from experiencing the joy of country music. After being locked up in their homes, people finally came out in hordes to have a blast amidst the country tunes, rain and mud.
The dates and the line-up for 2022 are not released yet. But going by its performance this year, Rock the South will undoubtedly rock the next year as well.
This year witnessed some diverse musical acts. Here is a list of the festival headliners:
· Miranda Lambert – One of the most decorated country musicians of our time, Miranda Lambert is a country household name. She is the winner of 3 Grammys, 6 American Country Awards and a whopping 29 Academy of Country Music Awards. Some of her most famous songs include “Kerosene”, “The House That Built Me”, “Mama’s Broken Heart” and “Bluebird”.
· Nelly – He is the biggest rapper of the early 2000 decade. Nelly has given us some great hip-hop hits like “Dilemma”, “Hot in Herre”, “Work it”, “Air Force Ones” and “#1”. His work has earned him many accolades like 3 Grammys, 9 Billboard Awards, 4 American Music Awards and 3 Soul Train Music Awards.
· Luke Combs – The singer-songwriter has released 2 hit albums like This One’s For You and What You See Is What You Get. Though relatively new on the scene, Combs is on his way to superstardom, having already won 5 Country Music Awards and 2 iHeart Radio Music Awards.
· Other Musical Acts – The Marshall Tucker Band, Ashley McBryde, Jordan Davis, Ingrid Andress, Flatland Cavalry. The list also includes Trey Lewis, Drew Parker, Morgan Wade, Alex Hall, Josh Kiser, Laine Hardy, Dee Jay Silver, Bailey Zimmerman, Meghan Patrick and many more.
On April 27, 2011, tornadoes struck the land of Alabama and wreaked havoc. The state suffered many losses of lives and property. But hope was not lost. The residents pulled themselves together to rebuild their homeland and a year later, their recovery as a state was celebrated in the form of a music festival. This was the birth of Rock the South.
Initially, Rock the South was supposed to be a one-time event to commemorate the progress of Alabama after surviving a natural disaster. But the popularity of the festival turned it into an annual cultural phenomenon. Till date, since its origin, the festival has collected and donated over $639,000 to various community partners. These include the Link of Cullman County and Cullman City Parks and Recreation.
Rock the South music festival boasts an impressive roster of country musicians. The list includes Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, Florida-Georgia Line, Dierks Bently, Alan Jackson, Eric Church, Thomas Rhett and many more. In spirit, Rock the South will continue to give back to the community and celebrate the culture of the Southern-American states. Due to its impact and heart, Billboard ranked Rock the State as the United States’ 6th best Country Music Festival.
This festival is once again on its way to sweep you off your feet. So, what are you waiting for? Book your calendar from October 21st to 24th and gear up for a high-octane and an electrifying weekend in Austin, Texas.
This commemoration is a yearly event. It aims to keep the tradition of American roots music alive by bringing together its supporters, making it accessible to a new generation, and encouraging active participation from young artists. Now, held on sprawling campgrounds surrounded by 145-acres of rolling hills and verdant meadows at Tilmon in Texas, this festival was built on the foundation of community, camping and celebration. To this day, it remains true to its ethos.
This scintillating event first made its appearance in 1987 at the Old Settler's Park in Texas. After a bout of flooding during one of the years at this location, the festival was shifted to other venues in Texas. Initially, it was an event center in Dripping Springs, which was followed by the pavilion at the eatery called Salt Lick BBQ. The third was at Camp Ben McCulloch, Driftwood. But none of these locations were slated to be permanent. In 2018, the event finally moved to its present location, The Old Settler's Homestead at Tilmon, in Texas.
Held for the past 34 years, this festival has contributed a great deal to the development of central Texas as the thriving center of live music. Every year this event witnesses participation from 30 or more brands in core American genres like roots, jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, acoustic, gospel, and country. This fascinating range of musicians varies from local favorites to award-winning artists from across the world. Apart from the musicians, the event is attended by around 16,000 audiences every year. Equipped with all the modern amenities, the three campgrounds provide an ideal site for camping, gathering and jamming sessions. Also on offer are gorgeous food items and chilled local drinks to satiate your taste buds along with the ears.
Some prestigious musical events where the festival finds representation include, but are not limited to:
However, this illustrious festival is not restricted to musicians and music lovers only. This platform is a huge benefactor of art in other forms too. Every year artisans from across the country gather at the festival grounds with their handmade artistry products to give the visitors a unique experience.
The organizers have already put up the event itinerary on their official website and also revealed the names of the artists and the bands who would be performing this year. Some of the most anticipated names include:
CMA Awards
The 55th CMA Awards, the longest-running awards program on national television, will take place this year on 10th November 2021. Like every other year, you can tune in live on the ABC network from 8.00 - 11.00 PM & watch as the country music’s biggest night unfolds.
With the nominations already announced on 9th September after three rounds of voting, the floor is heating up in search of the next superstar of country music. Finally, the country music community will single out & honor the deserving nominated artist for their creativity & passion on that night.
The awards dating back to 1967 were launched to honor & inspire upcoming country musicians in Nashville, Tennessee. The initial award was an un-televised ceremony & was held at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Tennessee. The second CMA awards ceremony was not televised live but recorded by NBC to telecast later after a few weeks. With growing popularity, NBC started telecasting the CMA Awards live from 1969 to 1971 till the CBS network took over. CBS network took over televising the live feed of the CMA Awards from 1972 to 2005 when ABC acquired control of the broadcast. From 2006 till today, ABC network has remained the official live broadcaster of the CMA awards.
The CMA Awards have always been held in Nashville, Tennessee, since 1967, except for 2005 where the award was held at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Otherwise, Nashville has been hosting the awards all these years but in various venues within itself.
Starting with Nashville Municipal Auditorium in 1967, the CMA awards ceremony shifted to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry in 1968 & continued till 1973. From 1974 the ceremony shifted to the new Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville & continued hosting the awards till 2004. With the slight detour to New York in 2005, the CMA award ceremony came back to Tennessee in 2006, but this time to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena is now the official venue for the CMA award ceremony till today except for last year. Last year, in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 54th CMA award was held at Nashville’s Music City Center, a smaller venue, pertaining to Covid-19 protocols. But this year, it’s back to usual for Nashville’s Bridgestone arena to host an enthralling night, which the country music enthusiasts are waiting for.
Apart from its venue history, the ceremony date is also another amusing thing. From 1967 till the year 2016, the CMA Awards was held on the first Wednesday of November. In 2016 another event that was telecast live on the same night of the awards ceremony made that change happen. That year game seven of Major League Baseball’s World Series was being telecast live by Fox network at the same time when the CMA awards ceremony was being telecast live by ABC network. With most viewers preferring to watch Baseball, that too the 2016 World Series, the viewership for the CMA awards fell very badly & with that, the ratings too. After that, from 2017 onwards, the award ceremony date is rescheduled to a later date to avoid conflicts with similar events.
Expect the 2021 CMA awards ceremony night to be a supercharged event with Nashville’s Bridgestone arena back in the fold, unlike the subdued event last year due to the pandemic. This year's nominated artists will include many first-timers, while the reigning hillbilly country vocalists are very much around competing for the awards.
Performers & presenters for the live-streaming ceremony of the 2021 CMA awards in Nashville are yet to be finalized & announced. For the latest news log on to: www.cmaawards.com.
